Slightly Spellbound
Kimberly Frost
Southern Witch, book four
ebook, 320 pages
Published May 6th 2014 by Berkley
ISBN 9780425267547

With two kinds of magick at odds inside her and two gorgeous men vying for her attention, Tammy Jo Trask is used to being pulled in opposite directions. But in the latest Southern Witch novel she’ll have to make some serious decisions—like how she intends to stay alive.

Tammy Jo’s romance with the wizard Bryn Lyons is on hold while her ex-husband is in town trying to remind her of the good old days. Choosing between them isn’t easy, and it doesn’t help that a skeletal creature is spying on her, a faery knight is hunting her, and she just made friends with Evangeline Rhodes—a rich witch who thinks her own family is trying to kill her.

When Evangeline disappears under suspicious circumstances, Tammy Jo is determined to find out what happened. As she uncovers a secret more dangerous—and personal—than she could have imagined, she also discovers that, in both love and magic, you can’t stay neutral forever.

Ever read a series that on some level you hated, but still couldn't *stop* reading it? I am so there.

With Slightly Spellbound we have the greatly anticipated return of the Bryn vs Zach debate... and all the Jerry Springer drama that comes with it.

Oh, Tamara. You're such a bitch. What's worse, is that you know it.

"Also, I might deserve for people to say a few bad things about me today.
After all, I cooked one man breakfast and I'm fixing dinner for another."

Duh! Grr!! Just shoot me.

I love Bryn. He's not perfect. God knows that man could stand to be a bit more comforting and he's got more secrets than hair follicles. But he's not Zach. And that's a winner no matter how you look at it.

Zach is just wrong on so many levels. How does one consider being with a guy that: a) nearly had you committed, b) abandoned you when you needed him most, c) divorced you, and d) isn't Bryn. Put him behind you with the rest of your past and move the hell on already!

I was convinced this triangle would never end. Not until somebody died. And giving what Tamara survives in this book, it could never be her. But alas, one of the men finally had a much needed awakening and stepped down. Leaving the other the opening to propose. Oh yes, dear Tammy Jo is yet again engaged having finally come to the conclusion that there's only one man she isn't willing to let walk away from her. Even for a vacation.

It's now June. I finished this book weeks ago and it's taken me this long to finish my post. That's how frustrated and worn out this series leaves me. Every. Damn. Time.

3 out of 5 stars.

Collision Course
Zoe Archer
8th Wing, book one
ebook, 141 pages
Published April 4th 2011 by Carina Press
ISBN 9781426891458

In a galaxy torn apart by war...

Mara Skiren is a scavenger, a black-market dealer. Blackmailed into helping Commander Kell Frayne infiltrate a treacherous corner of the galaxy, Mara learns that her biggest danger is from her sexy, by-the-book partner. She's a loner with more than a few battle scars on her heart, but something about Commander Frayne stirs up her long-buried need for an intimate connection.

An ace pilot for the elite Black Wraith Squadron, Kell's mission is to rescue a lost pilot and ship. Unable to deny his attraction to the beautiful, rebellious Mara, he decides bedding her would cool his ardor. But one taste is not nearly enough, and he finds himself sharing more of his real self with her than he has with anyone.

With deadly criminals on their heels and an increasingly dangerous assignment to complete, he's starting to wonder...if they survived, could he let her go? And will Mara want to stay?

This is a tale of an outcast princess and a former street rat brawler.

Mara is a woman determined to live life on her own by her own rules and Kell, a soldier inside and out, is hell bent on saving the world. Neither of them leave a job unfinished. When the military loses a prized ship and its pilot, their master plan to retrieve them becomes arresting Mara and blackmailing her to go get them. That part, she can handle. Especially if it means a pardon for all crimes at the end of the mission. What she doesn't accept nearly so well is the partner they force her to accept. In bed? Sure. On her ship? Hell no.

This wasn't my first of Archer's, but this particular story was written for readers like me. I almost didn't review it; I could never do it justice. Mara and Kell are two totally independent souls who manage to find completion in one another. It's not sappy or illogical either. It's a base attraction turned romance told at its finest. With everything I, myself, and me respond to. An instant need to claim. A not so instant demand to possess. And a mate marking... by humans... in space... and it all makes perfect, logical, un-sappy sense. Love it!

4 out of 5 stars. A must read.

Wherever you are, I'll find a way to you.
