As Enforcer for his Pack, Cain is used to people listening to him and following his orders without question. The only one to ever challenge him is Emily. Emily is good at pushing his buttons and making him want things he has no business wanting.
Emily has loved Cain all her life, but he denied her years ago. The two are thrown together when Emily returns home because of terrible attacks on Pack females. The sexual tension between the pair is explosive. No one is safe when this alpha male and strong female get together.
I was beyond shocked to find out book two in the Were Chronicles series was Cain's story quite simply because I had no idea who the hell Cain was. Different pack. New wolves.
At age twelve Emily was rescued by Lamont's pack from a cage where she had been kept by those that had turned her. Now, ten years later, she is attending college and living outside Pack territory. When a number of females from other packs are attacked, Lamont makes the decision to call his own females home and sends his son and Enforcer, Cain, to retrieve Emily.
Cain's attraction to Emily was first realized when she was seventeen. At eighteen, he lost control of his instincts for the first and only time and has kept his distance ever since. In his mind he's crossed a line that should never have been crossed.
In hers, she made a strategic pass that was rejected.
As the story progressed I was beginning to think all the males in this pack were related. Not only was Cain the Alpha's son but it seemed like every male that came into the picture was his brother. Well, it was only two but jeeze... they aren't that many characters to begin with.
After Emily explains her side of things, Cain does a complete one-eighty. And when she shows a bit of excitement at hearing Christian's home, Cain becomes quite the assertive jerk.
Okay, maybe not so much a jerk as much as being completely irresistible with his 'you don't want to see me jealous' serious face. And yet, I was ever so slightly disappointed in this one. The sex was lacking a bit.
Although certainly balanced when Cain loses his godfearing mind. One minute he was so cute... all embarrassed and shy as he asked Emily to go on a run with him... and then little Toby opens his big mouth and the guy sees red.
