To tame a wild thing, first you must gain her trust...

Mia's retreat on Cougar Mountain was supposed to be a quiet time of communing with nature. Instead, she can't shake the sense she's being watched. The reason why appears before her, chilling her to the bone. His name is Stark. And he says he's been waiting for her.

She takes to her heels, but it does no good. Captured and bound, she is surprised to feel no fear. Instead, she is mesmerized as her soul drinks deeply of his dark, commanding sexuality.

Stark once fought the Cougar Spirits, but now he embraces their mission to protect the forest and its creatures. Mia is his destined mate, perfectly made to fight by his side. But first he must tame her, starting with a slow and relentless seduction of her body-while he reveals each painful bit of his past.

Mia finds herself sinking into his touches, seeing the world as he sees it. But as shots ring out in the forest, she sees something else. A vision that Stark may never understand...and could not only destroy the bare beginnings of their destined love, but their mission to save the wilderness.

This book has been previously published and has been revised from its original release.

Warning: Sharp teeth and powerful male muscles, a watching, waiting cougar, enough heat to catch the woods on fire.

This book rubbed me the wrong way, and left me bummed.

“These”—nails as light as butterfly wings stroked her newly freed breasts—“belong to me now. What you feel is because I’ve decided you deserve it, but if you do something to displease me, I’ll take away your pleasure. For now.”

How could she do anything? Confused, she willed herself to remain still and compliant.

“At times you’ll hate me for what I’m doing, but I have no choice. Neither of us does.” That said, he unfastened her jeans and tugged down the zipper.

Stark had some the worst opening lines. Well, they're pretty good for a serial rapist/murderer but his entire tone and demeanor was just plain freaky. It was like he was seducing her into some kind of cult. And then he starts spewing crap about answering to a cougar spirit AFTER assaulting, restraining, and going as far as to gag Mia. Cr-A-zy! The guy's lonely and that's about the only good reason you'll get for why he's doing what he's doing.

I actually finished this one a couple days ago and didn't want to review it. Mostly because I didn't even want to even think about it. But it's completely taken away my appetite to read so I figured I'll throw something down if only to get it out of my system. So there. Predator gets 1 star. And that's only because it was ultimately a story about a shifter claiming a mate.

"Come to us, Rena. We've been waiting for you."

Rena has heard the whispers in her nightmares for years, ever since the night her mother disappeared. She hopes studying at Vindecare, a school for witches, will finally stop the voices and help her to control her abilities. At last she has a chance at a new life—and maybe a relationship with Kaydin, the undeniably sexy gallery owner helping Rena with her art.

But Kaydin has dark secrets of his own, intimately connected to Rena's nightmares. The shapeshifter saved the young witch's life once, a mistake he's bound to correct. Even if Rena makes him long with desire he hasn't felt for centuries...

Kaydin.. *goofy smile*

I was bit thrown by this one in the beginning. The entire scene was a setup for Kaydin's entrance. Apparently she had forgotten they had planned to meet. So he shows up and she proceeds to apologize and get herself ready- only to walk him out the door and close it behind him? Odd. Just odd.

Kaydin guards his secrets and his identity well. Half of the time I had great respect for the guy, the other half I wanted to claw at his face. The girl thought she had the crazy gene and completely alienated herself because of it and he's just going with the flow. Meanwhile she's hearing the voice of a demon and being haunted by a beast in her nightmares.

That beast? It's Kaydin. And yeah, Rena's a bit dense. Then, magically, she's filled with a whole lot of knowledge that comes out of nowhere. It was just too simple, and a bit too easy. And I'm still wondering how a wolf 'roars'. 3 out of 5 stars.

He grasped her tighter as he approached his own release, his already hard body stiffening. He gasped a deep breath, then threw back his head and roared.

The sound shot terror straight through her heart. She looked up at him, fully expecting to see the beast. But it wasn’t there. It was Kaydin she was clinging to, Kaydin who was still buried deep within her, Kaydin who sounded so much like the wolf from the clearing. Only his beautiful forest-green eyes were now jet-black.

Rena scampered off him, moving as far across the bed as she could.

He fell back against the pillows, his hand reaching for her. “Come back,” he said, his voice gravelly.

Wide-eyed she stared at him, trying to comprehend what just happened.

He took a shaky breath then turned to her, his eyes once more deep forest-green speckled with amber flecks. “What’s the matter?”

“Your eyes,” she whispered and climbed off the bed. “They were black. They were different. They looked like…” She couldn’t say it. Couldn’t think it.

“Like a wolf’s?” he asked.

Oh- forgot to mention that Kaydin is the first shifter (that I recall) who needed a woman to make the first move. So cute and yet, so wrong.
